ABIM Certification Testing
The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) is the only recognized Board in the specialty of internal medicine and is one of the 24 certifying boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. ABIM is an independent not-for-profit organization whose certificates are recognized throughout the world as signifying a high level of physician competence.

Registration Application
In order to be assigned to a test site, you must be qualified and approved by the ABIM through the normal application process. All required examination fees must be paid to the Board. The standards for passing the examinations are established by the Board.
- Applied to ABIM for the examination;
- Been notified of your eligibility to sit for the examination; and
- Paid an examination authorization fee to ABIM.
Testing Outside the United States
If you choose to schedule your examination appointment at a testing center outside of the United States or its territories, you will be charged an additional non-refundable international scheduling fee of $500. You must book your examination over the telephone. Please contact customer service for assistance.
